Charitable Organizations Helping Low Income Families
The struggle is painful and it is a reality for too many families both in America and around the world. Families at or under the poverty line question daily whether their needs will be met and if they will be able to provide a stable home and environment for their children. There is a multitude of reasons a family may find themselves in this position, and while some are quick to jump to judgments, there are many who are there to extend a helping hand to those families who need some support getting back on their feet. Long known as a resource for those in need, many churches offer programs or resources for families who are struggling. Whether it is a hot meal, shelter during the cold months or donated clothing or food- churches many times have resources available. Some churches and organizations even have job resources and employment information available for those who are in need of a job to help stabilize their families. Churches can also provide a place for children to go for support and stability in times of need. While churches are religious organizations, most will not require those they serve to be of any particular faith.
Feeding America
Feeding America is a huge organization with ties to numerous locations and services throughout the country. It is easy to find a resource that is served by feeding america and it is also easy to donate. You can find a facility online or by calling toll free for a local resource.
The Salvation Army
The Salvation Army is a large, well known, and readily accessible an organization dedicated to helping those in need. As a multifaceted and far reaching organization, they provide services in numerous categories, both nationally and internationally. According to their website, Salvation Army assists in:

- Providing healthcare services to those in need
- Rehabilitation services
- Family tracing
- Social work
Community Health Clinics & Mobile Clinics
Some communities have mobile clinics that will visit schools and shelters to provide children (and sometimes adults) with basic medical and health services or exams. Community clinics, although not mobile, can help provide low or no-cost services to those in need in order to maintain their health and safety at basic levels.
Private Companies
Although they are not charitable organizations, many utility companies offer lower cost, reduced cost, or temporary emergency relief from utility bills for low-income families. If you are struggling to keep the lights on, reach out to your utility companies and ask if they have any assistance programs you may qualify for. When it is a matter of having safe, habitable homes for families to live in, there are usually options offered.
Lift
Lift is one of a number of coaching organizations that focuses on coaching and mentoring as a way to assist families in need. LIft specifically connects parents or guardians of children to coaches to help mentor in different aspects of life to help provide a more guided and fruitful future for the family. If this service isn’t available in your area, search for one that is.
Help comes in all shapes and sizes, from immediate disaster relief to the long term social and life coaching that will serve families now and in the future.
